Christmas Decorating Tips from Creations, an Event Studio

Creations offers holiday decorating tips and will have RETAIL Christmas Pop Up Shop starting this Saturday, November 3, 2018 that will continue through the season.

Wherever you fall on the spectrum of Christmas decorating, your home can be festive with a little help from Creations. They’ve offered a few simple tips to bring some holiday spirit throughout your home, office or event, citing that these areas lend themselves especially well to create a simple WOW! factor:

  1. Front Door

Seasonal planters, swags, lighting or wreaths can give your guests a warm greeting and make them feel welcome to come on inside. Choose holiday decor that matches your personality. Traditional red and green is only one of many options, so feel free to express yourself.

  2. Tables

Tables can be a feast for your eyes – not just your palette! Whether it’s your dining room table, dessert table, favor table or multiple tables for a holiday party, you should include coordinating items. Build a theme that incorporates a variety of colors, patterns and textures. Adding a fresh centerpiece on the day of an event can add nose candy too.

  3. Fireplace Mantle

An obvious focal point, firelight is an natural draw for relaxation. Holiday containers or garlands  add another element of warmth and coziness where family and friends can gather. Maybe you include stockings, maybe not. Again, there is no right or wrong – only an opportunity for you to express yourself for the season!

Themes can include traditional or non-traditional elements. While traditional decor is always in, some of this season’s holiday trends include plaid, natural, and especially fitting for our area Hygge Holiday.

The Scandinavian term, prounounced “hue-gah”, comes specifically from the Danish culture. It’s a concept that cannot be translated to one single word, but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life.

Hygge can be considered an art or lifestyle, requiring consciousness, a certain slowness, and the ability to not just be present, but  to enjoy the present. This hits me like the form of minimalism as defined by Joshua Becker, author of my favorite blog, Becoming Minimalist.

While many people think minimalism all comes down to getting rid of “stuff”, he states that, “Minimalism is marked by clarity, purpose, and intentionality. At its core, minimalism is the intentional promotion of the things we most value and the removal of everything that distracts us from it. It is a life that forces intentionality. And as a result, it forces improvements in almost all aspects of your life.”

So this Christmas, decorate to your heart’s content – as long as you find joy in it.
